Sydney Band AMARNA Release Brand New Single ‘Naivety’

If you’re not yet familiar with the three-piece Sydney band AMARNA, today’s the perfect day to change that!

The boys had a massive year in 2021 with the release of two incredible singles, Routine and When. Today they’re back and better than ever with their new single ‘Naivety’. The track was produced, engineered and mixed by Yossif Kay and will be out on all streaming services as of Friday, February 4th. So, when I tell you that this is their best work to date, don’t take my word for it – check it out for yourself!

The band had intended to record and produce the song last year, but somewhat, fortunately, lockdown came out of nowhere and stood firmly in the way. James says the band spent the following months in a “pre-production purgatory”. So by the time that the track was finally recorded at Rancom Studios in December, they knew exactly what they were going for – and it shows.

Listening to the song, I’m sure you’ll agree that it fits right into the rest of their catalogue so far. It’s a natural progression of sound where the build and flow ultimately combine to reinforce AMARNA‘s nostalgic yet explorative style.

Naivety is the kind of song that makes the perfect addition to your ‘road trip vibes’ playlist. It’s a warm, calm, slow-burn build that takes on influence from alternative psychedelic beach rock artists such as Ocean Alley and Matt Corby. Stylistically and sonically, there are beautiful notes of John Mayer and Theo Katzman’s jazzy flair, which really sets the track apart from other Aussie indie rock hits.

The song’s laid-back, accidentally on purpose flow greatly reflects AMARNA’s writing process. It’s stunningly simple, like a breath of fresh air on a sunburned afternoon. The chorus is an earworm whispered lullaby, and the verses are beautifully written. The song gradually builds toward a tasteful bridge. The vocal control and range it takes to create such a song and resist the flashy shock-value bridge motif we’ve seen growing amongst pop artists in the last year is something to be properly admired.

I have absolutely no doubt that they’ll continue to create beautifully atmospheric and effortlessly nostalgic tunes in 2022. Unfortunately, the release show for Naivety had to be cancelled in the light of the Omicron spike, so you’ll have to wait to see the boys live in concert.
